We have storms here also and I hope it means everything cancels for tomorrow, even though I SPENT ALL DAY MOVING THINGS AROUND AND WORKING ANGLES TO GET THE SCHEDULE TO WORK!!!! I HATE MY JOB!
ahem, ION, I am preparing to apply to for jobs RIGHT NOW.
I am looking at school district jobs and they base their pay scales on the # of days to work each year.
I think I need hive mind help. I currently make X and work 329 days a year plus I get overtime for anything over 40 hours and I average about 5 hours per week. If I add the overtime to the regular pay, I can break that down to hourly pay, say Y per hour.
Two jobs I am looking at currently are listed with the midpoint salary at Y-4 per hour, 243 days per year and I doubt there would be much overtime. So not insignificant pay drop. more than $15K.
BUT when I look at per day income, it is less than 30 minutes of pay difference because I would be working 86 FEWER DAYS!!! HOLY SHITBALLS! 86 days, I could cook a lot more and save $ on eating out, but also have time for weekend trips which would cost $$. I need a pro/con sheet. I guess I should also work up a SERIOUS household budget. DO NOT WANT!!
I told a friend on Facebook that I hadn't seen the Lego movie yet. I haven't actually seen this guy in years, though I've commented on a few of his Facebook posts. He messaged me wondering if I'd like to drive up to a theater near him to watch it so I'd have company when I saw it (I mentioned I was going to see it with Hubby). I declined, citing unwillingness to drive up there and how late I'd get home. He then offered to find a Redbox copy and bring it down to me, or find it on Amazon.com. I declined again.
Maybe he's just that big on sharing movies he loves. I really, really doubt he's interested in a new widow, because he's gay (the first gay person I knowingly met, decades ago). But it was weird that he was pressing me into a meet-up to watch the movie. Perhaps it just social cluelessness. I certainly know several men who lack social awareness. Just . . . odd.
Yeah, working less might be well worth it, if the numbers work. I was just having a conversation about this -- my mother knows someone who is or was a lunch lady and LOVED IT because the hours and benefits worked for the family.
Connie, he may think you need some company, if he thinks your husband was your main social outlet.
There's that, but pushing the point after the first decline of the offer made me go "Hm." I did thank him for the offer.
Oh, and I'm not saying he's NOT awkward, but it may be coming from a good place.

I'm likely to do that, just in case the first decline was exactly what was said (particular circumstances won't work) rather than just politely phrased "thanks, but no thanks". After the 2nd decline, you assume that the person really isn't interested and let it go.

Or, what Jesse said.
Stuck home, I got to hear ALL of npr tonight. Chewed on this piece for a bit [link] not just for the story's angle, but the introvert and the stressed and the _____. Spoons.

Yeah, if he's concerned about you, and knows you won't think he's hitting on you, he probably thought "oh, she probably doesn't want to drive far, maybe I should make it easier and offer to go to her".
sara, is that part of an ongoing series? I have some stress around money, but I have just insane-o stress about caregiving crap.
In other news, the upside to an aborted vacation is that we get to harvest stuff from our garden box. The tomatoes taste pretty good (delicious with cucumbers and onions). The eggplants are just filling out. The crookneck squash is gross (I don't like squash). The watermelons are absolutely NUTS. More watermelon than I care to eat. After we harvest this, we may replant warm weather crops for September/october
and then harvest those and replant lettuce/kale etc for November/December
