I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I have a late 2008 MacBook (not Pro) with 4GB of memory. It took me several tries to install Yosemite, but it eventually took and I haven't had any problems since.

Poop! failed again. A quick search shows this is a common issue. Disk utility showing my hd needs repair, but will not allow me to click repair disk. Looks like I may be going to the Apple Store tomorrow. F f f

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Poop failed again.

This is where punctuation is SO IMPORTANT.

Or, perhaps, a referral to a doctor.

Yeah, I had that. Did you restart into, um, was it safe mode? The command-r restart. I think I may have restored to a Time Machine backup and start the whole Yosemite installation process again to actually make it work.

Sorry, I mean to remember because I knew someone else would run into the same thing, but I did not do a good job of that.

Just did command r restart will not let me repair disk. I've hooked up to my external he where all the backups are, but have no idea what to do once I click on restore.

IIRC, what worked for me was restoring to the last backup from before I started trying to upgrade, and once that finished, upgrading again. I might have repaired the disk after restoring and before upgrading. Sorry I can't be more specific.

I did it on basically a late 2007 mac. I need to replace the memory because it really runs high (I only have 2G) but I installed a memory cleaner in the meantime. And don't try to run anything else when opening iPhoto.

Got back from a Bye Karen! Thing about half an hour ago. I'm in deep, deep denial. She's got to come back in May for the wedding! She'll be renting the house, so we'll see her! I am basically in a throw down with her friends T&P over whether she'll stay with me or them when she visits, frequently, damnit. Their place is bigger, but this will be the old hood (but they are 7 minutes drive away.) Uhg. And she's sans spoons understandably, so no heartfelts for her sanity.

And so I'm still awake.
