Unfortunately I just did a quick check on FL Rental laws and if the rental property is on a month to month lease then the Landlord only needs to give notice 15 days before the end of the current monthly rental period. Assuming that the lease is month to month on calendar months, then if he has already given notice Laura will need to be out by January 1st.
Looks like FL doesn't do much to protect the renter. In CA it's 60 days if the tenant has lived there for 1 year or longer and 30 days if less than one year.
Let me know if there is anything I can do to help Laura. Pix and I will be in your area at the end of the month and even if it's just taking you guys out to dinner or giving you an escape for a few hours we'd love to help.
Florida is not a renter friendly state. The new owner guy seems nice enough and seems willing to pay a price to get us out. It is mostly having to make decisions and do stuff when time and mental energy is at such a premium.
I do indeed look forward to seeing you and Pix when you get here. A most welcome distraction!
Wow, 15 days?? That's shitty! You'd think they'd have to at least give 30.
I'm sorry about the impending move, Laura.
In other news, my Secret Santa gift is on its way to its recipient. Yay!
I got a card! From not-my-secret-Santa! Unexpected and delightful, especially today.
So did I, Amy!
The timing of it couldn't be better. I'm feeling exhausted and on-edge, and it was such a lovely thing to receive at the end of a long day.
Thank you, not-my-secret-Santa!
I too got cards! from my elf and others of you. Then I also got this: [link]

I see what you did there.
I put my package in the mail yesterday. And, once again, I forgot to put a card in it. I think it will be obvious it is from me though.
