Goodbye and Good Riddance 2013: That Was the Year That Was

Every year we watch the Charlie Brown special, do the Snoopy dance, wish everybody a Merry Thanksgivukkahmas, and thank our Secret Santas in the good riddance thread. Which is this one, in case you were wondering. Out you go, 2013!

Punishingly Intricate

That is a really crappy thing for your dentist to do with no warning!

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

but at that point, why not quinoa, which is better for you, right?

Pastina is a lot softer. I would think quinoa would get caught in the braces. Plus, the idea of not being able to have pasta for 6 months freaks me out.

Oddly, everyone else seems more outraged than I am. I mean, my head is still "wtf?!", but I'm not feeling any of the emotions that come with anger or outrage. Mostly I'm just, "so here I am, how do I live with this?"

My therapist will probably tell me I'm dissociating.

Protein shakes/powder, too? I just imagine protein might be challenging when you can't chew. I'm sure you've thought of this, but I'll post anyway!

I get it Polgara - it is what it is and you are just working on dealing with it. The rest of us are imagining not being able to chew and the impacts.

Last night I was lectured quite strongly--by someone I'd just met--about how I should write a letter to the dentist about how rude and inconsiderate it was to not warn me, if only to save the next person. Which sounds reasonable, but also like it would just take too much energy on my part.

Yup, stocked up last night on protein shakes and Ensure, and ordered protein powder--which I may not be able to ingest after all 'cause turns out it contains banana, which I'm allergic to. Yay.

Sounds like time to convince your dentist to write you a "I medically need a Vitamix" prescription!

Ooh, yeah! What meara said. Yeah, I understand just trying to deal at this point but she should understand that this kind of thing is something a person should have time to prep for. Even just a few days.

YES.

Let me know if you want me to post the link to the green smoothie website I've been kind of following. They get a little ... upper-middle-class suburban yoga mom in their writing, but the smoothie recipes are great, and they've got really helpful tips.

All smoothie recipes are welcome! Given the banana allergy, I've never been much of a smoothie person, so I totally need all the help I can get.

And I just looked up Vitamix on Amazon, and holy crap those things are not cheap! Yikes!
