Goodbye and Good Riddance 2013: That Was the Year That Was

Every year we watch the Charlie Brown special, do the Snoopy dance, wish everybody a Merry Thanksgivukkahmas, and thank our Secret Santas in the good riddance thread. Which is this one, in case you were wondering. Out you go, 2013!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I may be an optimist to a degree that is actually fucked-up: I was starting to think about a year-end wrap up, and actually thought out loud, "This year was pretty good for me...." Yeah, no. This WEEK was pretty good, even this month. I mean, the rest of it had its moments, but most people would probably put most of it in the minus column.

"What would it take to get your daughter to stop tweeting about this?"

Jesse, this is the first year that I've seriously considered some type of ritual to clear 2013 away.

You guys, Bonny is a fantastic Secret Santa! She sent me a vampire book I haven't read (The Angry Angel by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro), and a HUGE selection of witchy/occult ritual goodies. (Which were packed in a big Sephora box, which made Pete crack up at the appropriateness of it.)

Thank you so much, Bonny!

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

I wore the scarf out last night and got a number of compliments. I lurves it.

This makes me happy.

Our wings are not tired.

This used to be me, and I need to go back there. It is not a bad place to be.

I once had an astrologer reader type person tell me I was optimistic, then corrected herself and said, "no, you are steadfastly optimistic in the face of certain disaster." I miss that.

You are welcome, Jilli!

I hope the book is interesting. I scoured my local second-hand book shop...which I think you'd find simultaneously hilarious and frightening. It's a tiny row house so packed with books that the fire marshal visits regularly and the floor is continuously threatening to give way. I can't believe my luck in finding one that you haven't read!

Please tell me that you did find the bottle of ink. After sending the box off, I worried that I might have buried it too well.

Enjoy! And all the very best in the new year.

In other words, my favorite type of second-hand book shop.

Please tell me that you did find the bottle of ink.

No? But as soon as I finish my tea and pry Miss Erzabet off my lap, I will go unearth it. Thank you!

Jilli, I was afraid of that. Look inside the small roll of black paper that was in between the two ceramic pieces. It's in a wee black net bag.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

This has been a pretty good year for me - I was able to pursue my dream of writing about beer professionally, and I haven't gone to any funerals.

Ah-ha! I found it, and it is now sitting on the altar. Thank you again!
