It really is perverse -- I'm spending so much money on stuff that's not enjoyable that I'm spending even more for fun and adventure!
I am very tempted by this line of thought. There are some kind of reasonable flights (in relation to regular insanely priced flights to Europe from Canada) to Dublin in November. I am trying to convince myself to wait until spring.
I'm studying up on the publisher's romance line for my interview. Whee!
Not going to Paris, though, which is a bummer.
The Macarthur Grants were announced. Karen Russell was announced as a recipient. huh? Also someone at Steppenwolf.
I just went through the whole list, and realized I was afraid I would see someone I know! What is wrong with me.
Someone I went to high school with won a MacArthur last year. Someone three years BEHIND me in high school.
Karen Russell?! I'm reading Swamplandia and finding it a hard slog, mostly because she's so involved in the lyrical and the weird that she loses track of the story. Also, her people are not our earth people.
Didn't she also write the ... something something Home for Girls Raised by Wolves, or something like that? I heard that was supposed to be great.
She wrote
St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves,
which several friends of mine raved about, though I have not read it. I did read
Swamplandia
and was less than impressed. Some fabulous images, but not much to hang onto otherwise.
Also, her people are not our earth people.
Yeah, that's the truth.
