"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

Karen Russell?! I'm reading Swamplandia and finding it a hard slog, mostly because she's so involved in the lyrical and the weird that she loses track of the story. Also, her people are not our earth people.

Because books.

Didn't she also write the ... something something Home for Girls Raised by Wolves, or something like that? I heard that was supposed to be great.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

She wrote St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves, which several friends of mine raved about, though I have not read it. I did read Swamplandia and was less than impressed. Some fabulous images, but not much to hang onto otherwise.

Also, her people are not our earth people.

Yeah, that's the truth.

I did not enjoy Swamplandia! at all.

Because books.

I know her newest book got some good reviews, but I haven't read anything by her yet. I guess I won't rush!

I feel like Swamplandia! was "acclaimed," but you know.

brillig

They used the S-word in regards to our weather last night. There's a cold, wet storm moving in, and there's good likelihood of snow in the mountains by the end of the week.

Whee!!!

We've already hit our high for the day.
