Interesting. I didn't know low-glycemic could have that effect.
It's had a marked effect on the inflammation of my hands and ankles, but that might well have been edema. I am arthritic too, which is why I get the "procedures." It's not manageable with medication or diet.
I am buying milk with added omega 3, but that's just be being boondoggled, I'm sure.
Note that I don't know what boondoggled means, but Chrome likes it.
I think any dietary change is going to be his last choice
There are some small things, like swapping sweeteners that might help and be low impact--I've now found a white low-gly sugar (cane juice instead of molasses) for times where the complex smoky tastes of the coconut sugar is overwhelming. And of course, agave, but after having read it's natures HFCS, I feel leery of depending on it as much as I did.
I'm not saying switch it out without telling him--even I'm not that bad at relationships, but maybe it's low hanging fruit.

I could do that in the stuff I bake, no problem. And I'm sure it would be good for me, too (inflammation apparently being a huge culprit in heart disease, thank you Dad).

I don't know which gluten free flours you use, but I've been finding a combination of oat and spelt flour works well for basic recipes, and is a nice and low gly combo too. Keep your chocolate to dark, and that's most of the low-gly baking considerations right there.
Someone tell me where I can find the asshole who decided my cough drop wrappers needed to contain pep talk messages. You know what I don't want when I feel like razors are shredding my throat? A fucking pep talk.
Looking at the low glycemic diet -- ginger and turmeric. I've read a bunch of studies that Turmeric is a well-known anti- inflammatory. I learned about it when I was having an asthmaish day - I ate something curry flavored and suddenly felt miraculously better . and then I read about it. While I don't think it will cure anything - I think I would be beneficial.
Is there preventative stuff for arthritis? My whole family has it, so I'm pretty much guaranteed to get it. But I need my hands! I use them a lot; I'm a musician! And, you know, also for the typing on the internets.
Teppy in terms of the no nightshades diet (no potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, sweet peppers (green, red, yellow, orange etc) no hot peppers (chili pepper etc) - a) No scientific evidence for it.None. b) My Mother is on it an it helps a lot - as in she works out 3 days a week at the gym normally but if she cheats she has to walk with cane for a few days.
So on the no nightshades things (which is a misnomer cause you can have white and black pepper on it, even though those are nightshades) it is worth a try but does not work for everybody. Good thing about it. Anyone I know it has worked for you get really noticeable improvement within 3 days. So if Tim wants to he can test it for three days and if it does not work, cross off the list. No need to give it a long test.
I'd be delighted to add ginger and turmeric, and could dump potatoes and eggplant, but the lack of tomatoes and peppers in my life would be a hardship I don't think I could bear.
After going through bunion surgery for the hope of doing another marathon in my life I started having pain in the top of my foot. Doctor says it is arthritis! Really doc, it wasn't there before the surgery. Grrr.
I know Glucosamine and Chondroitin helped a great deal for my knees and hips when I did a lot of mileage. A Lot.
a lot of Hubby's arthritis started with surgery.
Yeah, the surgeon tried to pass it off as unrelated, but it didn't come on that quickly. It kind of defeats the purpose.
