I am doing another staining sample to double check something. And am impatient.

House is clean.

So one of my high school buddies weirds me out on fb. We were pretty close back then, closer in college, largely because we were some of the few to really leave our hometown with verve, and then we lost touch a few years out. Anyway, fb. An odd feeling about the last series of posts made me look and 99% of his posts are super-posed couple shots with his really hot 25 year old girlfriend (one of them was from a birthday for her, I'm not stalking.) Which, ok. But it's just weird. Him & her in lululemon workout gear red-carpet-style at the gym. Him & her in Vegas in party clothes (and jesus, she can seriously wear the fuck out of slinky outfits.) Him & her on the beach in bikinis (well, her.) Him & her xmas work party.

He was always so damned preoccupied with appearances, we used to give him such shit about it, teasing him he was trying to go into politics and shaking up his crafted facade (not a far stretch, he comes from a politically powerful NM family, and is partner in a firm up north) and I'm just getting such a weird vibe, like he's totally gone for that. OTOH, given his track record of getting his heart broken in college, hope this works out for him.

I dunno, it just feels weird. And sad, maybe? Like my old friend is only sharing his pod-person with me. Artifice?

I love Neil deGrasse Tyson. Holding a baby. The little social commentary asides.

OK, it's very appropriate that while I'm watching this ep of COSMOS, I get an email from dad, who is in Costa Rica with mom.

Assisted by the Scotch I was able to ascertain that the poolside iguanas (a) will bite and (b) can draw blood. I established this on several occasions; I'm a scientist, after all.

To which I responded, 'Is it your goal to be bitten by the local wildlife everywhere you go?!!!'

A reasonable person asks "Does it bite ?" A scientist pokes it.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

To which I responded, 'Is it your goal to be bitten by the local wildlife everywhere you go?!!!'

I can see why he'd want to visit Australia.

Heh Sarameg.

Diamond shoes too tight complaint. Someone gave us an aged Kansas city strip as a present. So I cooked it I think excellently. I marinated in lime juice with salt, pepper and garlic, browned it on both sides in a pan with more salt, pepper and garlic, then broiled it at 450 until it was barely medium rare. The texture was perfect. And it was totally bland and flavorless. I think I'm just not used to steak. I mostly avoid red meat, and when I have red meat it is stuff like chuck or pork loin cut into small pieces cooked in a stew with strong flavored veggies and strong flavored liquids and spices. Quite honestly I liked the (low fat) turkey bacon with cabbage, celery, peas, carrots and corn I made last night better. Ruth agreed. I guess fancy cuts of meat are wasted on us. And while I know the perfect way to cook Kansas City Strip is grilling, pan browning then broiling is a perfectly respectable choice.

BTDT. I think a kangaroo got him. We all were definitely nibbled on by rock wallabies, cause we hand fed them at Granite Gorge. OH, but I totally remember they drew his blood too!

I'm not sure whether it is better or worse that my main AUS creature mishaps were being pooped on by a koala and fruitbats. And postured at by a cassowary.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

And it was totally bland and flavorless.

I don't eat steak often, but I always marinate it something strong like Worcestshire sauce.

I do salt it, but the main thing is that I put butter on it to melt before I serve it. I know that seems like excess, but that's what the French like to do and it makes it taste super yummy.
