Also, I see statistics and probability called out the Common Core, and also (Sophia) a reference to "traditional" course sequences (Algebra, Geometry, etc) vs "integrated" (Math 1, Math 2, Math 3). So there.

I never *had* a lot of it to begin with, though. But that's a good idea. It also confuses me when the teaching terms and methods change -- she was taught to do long division completely differently than I was.

My school seems to teach the kids multiple ways to approach problems, which seems like a pretty good policy, actually. There's more than one way to skin a cat, but if the method isn't one I know or remember it can be hard to help.
I had totally forgotten the words "numerator" and "denominator" when fractions first came up. I was like, "There must be a word for the top part of a fraction - now what IS it!"
