Because books.

Yeah, Sara talks about her math homework and it's all completely beyond me. Which sucks when she needs help.

I'd like to go back and take some math classes, just to prove to myself I can.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Unrelatedly, did you all see the thing about how standing like Wonder Woman actually makes you more powerful? It's 100% true, and even works a little just thinking about it. At least it makes me stand up straighter and more powerfully.

I did see that! I keep meaning to try it.

Amy, try Khan Academy for parent refreshers on math stuff. A lot of it comes back to me once I get into it.

Also, I see statistics and probability called out the Common Core, and also (Sophia) a reference to "traditional" course sequences (Algebra, Geometry, etc) vs "integrated" (Math 1, Math 2, Math 3). So there.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

Is this where I make a joke about needing the D?

I saw the doctor last week ... he said that in order to get the daily recommended amount of Vitamin D you'd have to stand outside naked for about 15 minutes. Dude, it's WINTER ... all the sticking-out bits would freeze off (and I'm not talking about just fingers and toes).

I never *had* a lot of it to begin with, though. But that's a good idea. It also confuses me when the teaching terms and methods change -- she was taught to do long division completely differently than I was.

My school seems to teach the kids multiple ways to approach problems, which seems like a pretty good policy, actually. There's more than one way to skin a cat, but if the method isn't one I know or remember it can be hard to help.

I had totally forgotten the words "numerator" and "denominator" when fractions first came up. I was like, "There must be a word for the top part of a fraction - now what IS it!"
