OK, I have been reasonably productive. Time for a pot of Earl Grey. Hot. and the Picard-Ten Hamlet.
Natter 72: We Were Unprepared for This
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
So far today, I've eaten scrambled tofu for brunch, mocked my sister for having Hunger Games Capitol Collection truffles, and driven back to NJ. I think my next step is eating half a leftover burrito. Really exciting stuff.
From the packaging for the Capitol Collection truffles: "Let us commence. It is essential to properly prepare for your degustation by familiarizing yourself with the parfums. Ensure that servers are properly trained and that you are well versed in all matters of chocolate etiquette. A host or hostess is expected to guide the tasting. Know that your guests will be watching you closely for each and every social cue. Remember, confidence is everything and less is never more."
I got up at 8AM, made breakfast, went for the Resolution Run 5K (which I ended up walking a good half of, because OW), and then hit up the grocery store. Now settling in to be on the couch, watch some TV, read some Yuletide, and maybe eventually go organize my office. My calves are killing me. Ow.
Only 6 adults came to my house. More will come, I think, but um, I have food for like many many. One couple did bring their 3 girls who were fascinated with the cats, but they are all under 10 and did not eat much.
I may be living off finger food for a few days.
I can think of worse things! I was just having happy thoughts about the fact that I have both broccoli and dip makings leftover from Christmas.
Days of finger food sounds pretty good to me.
ETA: In fact, I decided to whip up some dip to have with carrots for lunch, but my sour cream is moldy. Woe. Ooh, but I have flavored cream cheese! That will do.
It has been a pleasant, unremarkable day, blessedly hangover-free. Time to go implement a resolution! Not-procrastinating, that is. But if I had implemented it right, I'd have done it earlier, wouldn't I? I'm not sure how not-procrastinating works, exactly. I've never done it before. Ooh, exciting!
So last night was a progressive dinner through Niles. started with about 25 or so and ended with about a dozen people. It was a rather mellow evening - which was an unexpected bonus. The air wasn't so good for me, so we came home shortly after midnight. then I got up at 745ish to make biscuits for a 10 pm brunch. WE are just home now.
Good times - lots of neighborhood socializing. And we also spent a lot of time figuring out how a Niles Monopoly game would work.
Went to the beer bar and the beer dinner, came home and drank a beer, then went to bed (where I stayed up too late reading, heh.) Today I've been in my jammies, watching Community, and making Hoppin' John (black eyed peas).
I also finalized a magazine article (and three sidebars) and submitted them, so I am feeling totes productive.
After the Hoppin' John is done, I'm pretty much finished with all my obligations of the day.
We took Kato for a walk, since today is the warmest and driest it's going to be for a while (back to the gym tomorrow, with the rest of the world), which seems to have helped my headache. Now we are eating fancy cheese (Trader Joe's olive oil/rosemary asiago) and watching DVDs of Arrow S1. Hey, it's New Year's Day and I don't care about college football but I loves me some superheroing.
