Bone broth is essentially what Cass said, with the added element that you simmer the bones and scraps for at least 24 hours with a small amount of vinegar. The acid draws the minerals and other nutrients into the 'stock', making a richer, more flavorful and nutritious broth that can be used in many, many ways.
As Steph said, it is widely suggested as a curative for gut ailments in large part due to the gelatin leeched from the bones.

It's a little weird, but not outlandish, I'd say.
My "system" of buying wines because I like their name or how their label looks and then letting them sit for several years because, really, my wine buying rate and my wine consumption rate are out of sync pays off again. 2005 Earth Zin and Fire = tastier than I expected.
