I knew he was petitioning for permission with all sorts of ridiculous excuses as to why he should be forgiven, but I had not heard that the petition was granted.

sj, yeah, But then I also feel weird about that thing, after people have a baby where, you know, everyone's all relieved that "everything's okay". Not that I don't want that for them...this is not an easy life, and I'm not militant enough to insist that if I had every choice, I'd still pick it. But it's also not *that* horrible, and I feel a little insulted every time I've got to go "Thank God, another baby that won't live like me." And at the same time, I have to be all over it already. But it's the worst thing ever for your bundle of joy...makes total sense.
Yeah, it's difficult. I definitely don't wish ill on anyone's child or think that it is easy on any parent if their child has special needs, but am I supposed to feel guilty that my mother never had the chance to raise a "normal" child? Plus, as someone with spina bifida my chances of having a child with spina bifida is increased, so am I supposed to feel bad about taking that risk? It was just a stupid thing to say to me.

New Orleans animal laws are crap, completely unshockingly, and the PD doesn't do much to enforce them, also unshockingly.
I have heard of people being banned from pet ownership, but I don't know what is required in terms of proof/follow through by complainants.
We just had two people murdered in a case where the guy who likely did it was banned from owning pitbulls but got more anyway. I think it was a case similar to what smonster described

Posts like all of this are what will drive me to become a crazy animal lady. I swear saving animals is the only thing that would get me to buy a larger piece of property.
