smonster, I understand that women consistently undervalue their work. Is this a quote you'd consider high if you'd received it from another contractor? You have years of experience and skills that you're bringing to work that will have a very tangible outcome. Plus, if you put things a little high and the other party counter offers that still gives you room to negotiate without feeling like you're getting ripped off. Don't undersell yourself--you'll have plenty of a**holes trying to do that for you.
Spike's Bitches 48: I Say, We Go Out There, and Kick a Little Demon Ass.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
What Calli said.
Virtual hugs to everyone.
Busy day.
I had my 3 month Lasik follow-up today. While my vision is SO MUCH better than it was presurgery, it still isn't without issue. So we are doing a 6 month follow-up as a "pre-enhancement" appointment. Basically, if my vision hasn't improved in that time, they will schedule a "tune up" Lasik procedure. More lasers. Wheee. At least that is free.
Is it stupid for me to drive 20 hours round-trip to pick up this desk? It's EXACTLY what I want, and it's only $50. link
That's a pretty long drive. What would the gas and maybe truck rental add to it?
(Weirdly, I just drove past there yesterday. But I wouldn't have had a way to transport anyway.)
How much would it cost to pay someone to do it?
I just drove past there yesterday.
I knew there was a Buffista in the area! Okay, tell you what: I'll rent a van, you go pick it up, I'll fly up there, I'll buy you dinner and a puppy (or whatever), I'll sleep on your couch, and I'll drive the van home with my new desk. What do you say?
Twenty hours? Yes that's nuts. Ten hours of you ALSO had some good reason to be in that city like visiting a friend and could add a day? Maybe. But 20 is a lot.
But I could fly there and rent a van and it would be a ten hour drive, which is totally doable.
Thanks, Calli. Part of it is me being so broke I can't imagine having that money for such a small thing. Part is not having much basis for comparison, not having dealt with the money side ever, and worrying about asking too much. Encouraging me to value my work is one thing Bill is very good at.
