smonster, from what I've been reading you'd be a good fit for a job that has a split between office/supervisory and field work.

I suspect the moment you read office/supervisor you weren't hot on the idea, but here's what I'm seeing. You've been on the receiving end of a number of seemingly well intentioned bosses that don't know how to manage well. You've also spent a lot of time in the field as a woman in a male dominated industry.

If you can find the right company you are a gold mine. A boss or a company that really wants to make inroads into having a more gender balanced workforce in your industry would love to have someone with your skill set and experience.

I have no idea what the landscape is like for that New Orleans.

I'm coming at this as someone who owns a small business in a field that is dominated by while males to a massive degree. I've worked hard to try to have a balanced office and staff, and on the whole I've done well, but the advice of my wife, and the women that work for me is what has really made the difference. I simply have not experienced this industry from their perspective, so I need to know how to do it.

This may be obvious, but have you been looking at Idealist for job listings?

One benefit of ND's advice, Smonster, is that you wouldn't be on job sites all the time which sounds like it would be beneficial for your body.

I'm worried that full time construction work is breaking your body down.

If you could find a way to leverage that so it's a combination that might be beneficial.

Thanks, ND. I have thought for a while that I would like something that worked both my brain and my body. My supervisory experience so far has not gone that great - my anxiety and lack of confidence hinders me there, as it does in pretty much every area of my life. I really want to be part of a TEAM. I can lead on specific things if I am well supported. I make decisions best collaboratively. I just don't know where to look for that.

Except that sitting at a computer is no better. My pain last night was largely the result of sitting at a laptop trying to pick health insurance. Staying in one position for any length of time is not great.

I was talking with bonny recently, and here's the mission statement I came up with:

My mission is to preserve and promote beautiful things, ideas, and people.

I also have a list of skills broken down by category and things I'm not good at. It's just not coming together in a coherent picture yet.

Thanks. My cousin just sent me a picture of his truck, and it looks like he hit it multiple times like it bounced around on the ice. Still no word if T is going to have to stay in the hospital overnight. I'm just glad my niece was at school already, and both wasn't in the car and didn't see it.

On this front it sounds like you would benefit from a convertible standing/sitting desk, where you can change from working in a sitting position to working standing up as needed.
