Hey, I've been in a firefight before! Well, I was in a fire. Actually, I was fired from a fry-cook opportunity. I can handle myself.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Thanks for the job~ma. I'm kind of stressing out about not having a job yet. One of my friends has pretty similar credentials to mine, and she's been looking for jobs outside academia, and she hasn't found anything, either.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Hil, just a reminder, in academia if you haven't heard "no" yet then it means you're still on a short list somewhere. I didn't get an offer until July, and I've been here for 15 years now.

Thanks. The last few times I was in this situation (two interviews, then no contact), it was because they'd made an offer to someone else, and were waiting to get an official yes from that person before telling me no. But I'll keep that in mind -- they haven't told me no.

Laura, my cousin went through some similar stuff to what you're describing your son going through. His parents and the rest of the family worried a lot, but he managed to get his life back together -- he went to a school where he learned about computer security, and now he's got a job with one of those companies that get hired to try to break into a computer system, so that they can find where the vulnerabilities are and fix them. The school where he went was organized so that you just took one class at a time, which worked out better for him, since he'd get disorganized trying to keep up with several classes at once.

Our wings are not tired.

Thanks, Hil. He still claims that he wants to go to school in the fall after going north with me for the summer. He doesn't seem to see any disconnect with these objectives and his current life choices. He's smart. He'll find his way.

Compassionately intolerant

A question for women who have taken Diflucon. How long does it generally take to feel a difference?

I'm flying blind after going to the urgent care this morning.

They took a swab for the other kind of infection, which I will not get the results for until Wednesday. In the meanwhile, I'm praying that this little pill will just fix me!

$16.18 for a single pill.

I know that isn't even close to what some meds cost but it just seems crazy to me that ONE pill costs that much!

In totally other news, my very favorite book of all time is back in print and the bff (who has been scouring the internet for a copy at a cost of less than $250...not a typo) sent me a spanking new paperback. All the stuff I need to do be damned, I'm curling up with Sinbad and Me this weekend.

I'm only 20 pages in and am having the loveliest experience. I remember SO much of the actual text as if I'd read it recently...rather than 45 years ago. At the same time, it is so sophisticated that I'm boggled that I loved it that much as a kid and am enjoying it even more as an adult.

Architecture, cyphers, numismatics and an English Bulldog who helps solve a crime just by being an awesome dog. No super powers required.

I thought the whole raison d'etre for Diflucan is you only take the one pill instead of taking pills for 7 days. But it probably works in about the same amount of time that other pills work, so 24 hours or so.

Blah. It's hot in here, so I opened some windows, but then the evil pollen started attacking my sinuses, so I had to close them. And I'm stressed.
