"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Emmett's planning on playing college ball at the least. Maybe a scholarship then see if he can take it to the next level.

But all the kids at this camp are good so he's getting a sense of the competition.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Those are always interesting moments in a youth sports career. IME some of them thrive on the realization that being the big dog in their club/school/local team is a small part of the whole picture -- others, not so much.

I hope baseball continues to be an awesome experience for Emmett no matter how far he goes.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Wow, that's cool for Emmett.

I'm angry at my DVR -- I swear it was taping stuff Thursday night, but none of it is there now. Luckily, most things are On Demand. Maybe I'm going to ditch the DVR altogether? Then I just have to remember what I watch.

Our wings are not tired.

My TiVo is almost filled to capacity with movies from TCM, and I deleted all my subs other than Downton Abbey. The "remembering what I watch" thing is actually a godsend because other than Parenthood, Parks and Rec, and Good Wife, it turns out I don't miss a damned thing. I am trying (and succeeding) in reading a lot more until baseball season starts. It's working and for me the tv time was getting in the way of a lot of things. I'm not trashing tv-watching at all, but when I added 10 hours commuting by taking this job, something had to give.

brillig

I think my cat has sleep apnea. He's laying on the other chair in my office, snoring through his stuffy nose, and occasionally he'll stop snoring. t checks cat OK, he just shifted position. But still, tbose breaks in the snoring are disconcerting. Poor kitty with a cold.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

Random hivemind question -- what do you do with old pillows? I've bought new ones, so do I just throw the old ones out or can they be donated to a school for arts and crafts or something?

Brenda, yes, there is a place ("Eltana") about 4 blocks from me that bills itself as a Montreal-style bagel place. They are wood-fired? And smaller than most American bagels? They're better than the weird bready things trader joes tries to pass off as bagels, but since they don't have flavors I like, I don't go often (until I forget they don't have flavors I like!)

I'd say come visit me and try it but I suspect going to actual Montreal would be closer for you!
