Now tagless for your comfort.

Random question of the day: What's the last random act of kindness you participated in? (either as the doer or the receiver)

I've spent the last two days trying to help a friend and her family move out of their house. They've been in foreclosure for months now--the house finally sold and they have three days to vacate. The inside looks like a scene from Hoarders. I had been inside and knew the family lived a cluttered, messy life inside but I am still in shock about what I've found. PILES of trash in the floors. I was cleaning out her youngest daughter's bedroom. This little girl isn't three yet and there was a MOLDY LOAF OF BREAD IN A BAG under piles of garbage mixed in with dirty clothes and used pull ups ON THE FLOOR!

I'm sort of sick about it.

ABQ job offer came in. 20% pay cut from his previous two jobs

Yikes. Did they ask for a salary history? Is there any room to negotiate?

Because books.

Dana, that sucks.

We (faculty and staff) were just sent an email from HR with the subject line "Sexual Harassment time."

"The most wonderful time ... of the year ..."

They did, and there is. I just doubt there's 20% of negotiation room. Honestly, I am okay with him holding out for another job, because his headhunter is confident that his skills are in demand and will only be more so.

But it's still irritating, and he's taking it hard.

Dana, that sucks. My DH has had a couple of rejections and they are hitting him hard. Is there any chance of negotiating upward?

Could he maybe get them up 10%? I know any pay cuts hurts.

And Little Drummer Boy was heard as I was cruising the radio. That isn't enough for it to count as my sex life, right? Cause that is just wrong - "every child should know"?

Yeah, I don't know. He'll talk to the headhunter in the morning about it. Fortunately, we are okay money-wise so it's not a crisis. The hit to his self-confidence is worse.

Is there a COL difference between ABQ and where you are now? And if so, does that make the salary difference more or less of a problem?

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

It's roughly the same cost of living.
