Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

That first list is just unusual, no? With possibly but unlikely high pay for some.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

I could totally be an ice cream taster.

Career change!

Because books.

Embalmer's pay isn't great, but I bet it's a really low-stress job if you're cut out for it. When I was in upstate NY, I ran into a lot of people who were going to a college up there for funeral directors.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

If "less than 50,000" is the threshhold for surprisingly low-paying, then most of the surprisingly high-paying list...isn't.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I could totally be an ice cream taster

I don't think you have the qualifying degree, which is another reason the list is weird. If I'm a scientist with a BSc, is 50k *surprisingly* *high*? Genetic counsellor is going to require a bachelor's as well. Also, I remain unstunned at the idea of a hot dog vendor making $30K, or a body part model making $20 for an afternoon, at least unless they mean low. I hope you get expenses, at least.

If $45k is objectively low in the second article, I don't see how some of the salaries in the first are high, even surprisingly so.

And the embalmer thing makes zero sense.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Jesse, my stretch teacher has us do isolation exercises with the torso, hips, etc. I find it surprisingly difficult.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I had trouble isolating body parts for movement when I tried belly dance, but I'm not great at isolating them in most other situations so I don't think belly dance was particularly unique there.

I've got a doctorate and I'm making less than that.

Grrr, that's just wrong. You are NTT, aren't you?

Non tenure track? Yeah.

(The bit that Burrell quoted was me, which I deleted, then decided deleting it was stupid. I'm very indecisive today.)
