Long, long ago I could do the splits - one leg forward, not both straight out - but only with the left leg forward, and only after a solid year of daily dance classes. Right leg, never even close.

7 years of synchro and I could hyperextend splits (either leg forwards) with front leg on a chair and back leg on a stair but never could do side split. Now 17 years out of practice i can still do right leg forward split but not left. And that only due to yoga.
Hathaway too, Jesse?
Can't do the splits, never could, but I keep working on it in stretch class and now I can lift my legs a good 10-15% higher than I could before.
OK, what about stretching your legs out while sitting on the floor and putting your head down to your knee? I never could do that, either.
Oo! I know the trick to that one: relax your knees (ie bend them a little) so you don't overstretch your hamstrings. You'll get your torso down a good bit further than you ever thought you could, and in time your knees will straigten out while you relax.
There is something wrong with my hips (they are apparently attached at the wrong angle) that means I canno sit up straight with them stretched out in front of me and also sraighten my legs.
in time your knees will straigten out while you relax.
Do you mean "in time" in that stretch session, or do you mean as you progress loosening yourself up from session to session?
Surely she would have mentioned the dreamy Hathaway.
If she's also meeting Hathaway, "jealous" will not be the correct word to describe me.
OK, I have done my 75 squats for the day (that's a phrase I am surprised is coming from me with no irony) and it is all due to you guys. So, thanks?
BTW, skipping exercise before work and then doing it while still dressed in office clothes in the middle of a hot afternoon when you have no air-conditioning is not the smartest possible decision.

I mean B, as in when I first tried it my back was so stiff I could just lean over my legs and now I can touch my head to my knees as long as I keep them relaxed and let them relax to straighten. Not a quick fix I realize, but oh well.
