I hope it all sorts out well, Julie. That's a clusterfuck.
I kinda think I freaked out my division head this morning. He came in to get a picture for 15 (well, technically I wrap up 16 this fall) years at work. I'd had a flustered morning, was having hair issues, and while normally I'm pretty blasé about pics, this is going to be up on the big screen in the auditorium. I just looked at him and was all OH HELLS TO THE NO. Couple hours later, he sends me an email that he'd sent to all the people he couldn't track down offering them the opportunity to provide a pic, apologizes for ambushing me. D'aw. I sent the koala&me picture, cause EVERYONE looks awesome holding a koala.
Bonus, I found one of my favorite pictures of Devi on the work laptop: [link]
Wow, Julie. I hope you can get it straightened out. I grew up in NJ and know from experience that they are complete asses when it comes to anything DMV or driving-related. Like you said, priorities totally wrong.
And then once she was all suited up for bedtime, she didn't even want to read or rock, both of which she usually enjoys (and I do too); she just wanted to be put in her crib, so I didn't get to help calm her down. I kind of feel like she just slammed the door on me and told me to "get out, Get Out, GET OUT!"
She kind of did, but that's a good thing! She's learning. In the end, you want to raise a capable, confident person, you know? But I totally get how hard it is to listen to, and freely admit I haven't had to do it in a long time.
That said, in a few years you'll be where I am! This phase, too, shall pass.
Google's Doodle today is AWESOME.
I was reading something someone linked (here? FB?) the other day about other societies, and how in many of the more rural/hunter-gatherer/nomadic groups, kids are given much much more freedom, in terms of roaming around but also in staying up all night and eating when they want, etc. And the article was all "It's so important for kids to have freedom!" and made it sound like GAWD, why doesn't everyone just do what the NOMADS do and let the KIDS BE KIDS. And I"m like "yeah, that's great until the kid has to make it to daycare and mom's going to be late for work..."
Woohoo! Hyperbole and a Half is back! Or at least, she posted a thing saying she's going to post a thing!

I came across an article a couple of weeks back saying that her book should be out this year.
Fuck. Sex-abuse allegations at the catholic school Miss P and her brothers go to. And my friend, her mom, just took off 2 weeks to head their annual fundraiser. Uhg.
Hey, and yay you for new job, and enthusiastic new coworkers, no more awful boss!
Oh, sara, that's awful.

HA! a coworker has a 3 year old who won't get into bed until after 9 and won't sleep until 11 and then gets out of bed and goes into their room. And he feels like he needs to put a lock on the door to set boundaries. But they have never left this kid with other people, not even family. They gave up a Y membership because the kid wouldn't tolerate the gym kid watch.
I explained my kids were sleep trained by really expensive nurses who had Noah on a 3 hour schedule when he came home. They still sleep for 11 hours a night and are in bed by 7:00 on most every night (except tonight because Noah went to watch hockey). My kids have tons of issues but sleeping isn't yet one of them.
YAY for Amy's good news!
