I LOVE that article. But I also love those names.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I figured I'd give you folks a quick update. The damage was not so bad once the Fire Dept. removed the tarps they'd thrown over the areas where water was coming in. I'll lose a couple three dozen cds, a half dozen really nice coffee table books, a closet full of old newspapers and clippings that I've been trying to get through to cull stuff (not a problem now - even if they hadn't gotten wrecked I was probably going to toss them) and a bunch of comic books - nothing especially valuable among them. I also think a futon I had in the spare bedroom is probably a loss, although the frame is probably OK.
Now it's down to packing, getting a new place to live, and moving. I think I will be hiring moves this time.
Sadly I did not have renters insurance, which I'm kicking myself about now. Lesson learned, I guess. That, and always make sure there are working batteries in the smoke detectors, although I'm not sure it would have helped as the landlord didn't keep his up to date either.
Frank, be easy on yourself - this has got to be upsetting in ways we can't imagine. So glad you're safe.

(((Frank))) Hiring movers sounds like the right call. I hope you can find a new home quickly and easily.
Hugs, Frank!
Frank, what Sparky said. Also, you probably want to contact the fire department -- or whoever's handling matters in place of your landlord -- about access to the apartment for packing purposes. Another helpful hint: Don't worry too much about packing neatly. You can always sort things out in the new place.
(Part of the Buffista hive mind is the BTDT crew. Although in our case, we'd already found a place and given notice before the fire happened. The fire fighters threw some of our stuff in the boxes we'd already collected, which helped the packing along.)

My ear is stopped up! I've had two lie downs with H2O2, so it's better than when I first woke up, but I have tinnitus, and this is like cranking the volume. I am going NUTS.
OH the joys of sending out emails to people with instructions to remove me from tasks. good times.
Did I mention here that I started watching White Collar on Netflix. I never watched it before - that is some good times. The green screen backgrounds are bad when they use them, but otherwise I like the visuals. I mainlined S1 over the weekend and started S2 last night.
