That's what I want to spell, and then force myself to spell "oriented" instead, but I don't like it. That latter feels too much like "I showed them whites how to be sinophiles!".

t edit My understanding is that it's a back-formation that gets used so often that it's in common use. But I still don't think it's any more correct than "conversate."
