My mom's health was failing so bad in the last year that I reflected that if she were a cat, I'd have to put her down to be a responsible pet owner.
I certainly thought the same about my father. I decided it was time to let Gremlin go after she had lost about a third of her weight, couldn't stand and only ate if you put food in her mouth. During that same period, my father's condition was quite similar, but there was nothing we could do except a DNR order.
Kate, surely there's a rule that you only have to let police and firemen into your house before 7 a.m.
A pair of robins have decided that the place to build a nest is right outside my back door. It seems like every time I go outside, I interrupt a robin with a load of nesting material.

My father called me at 6:30 Monday morning to tell me that:
A, his phone was broken (yeah, I don't know)
B, he hurt his hand and needed me to tell my sister he needed her to take him to the VA that afternoon
C, he had already sent her a text message to that effect
D, because he couldn't call her because his phone was broken.
