in places other than Universities/Colleges, do departments charge other departments for things?
I do so in my NGO (non-governmental organization). We have a number of different project contracts, and I charge my time among several of them and to "overhead". Each project needs a little bit of website or eLearning support, but none of them need or can afford an employee dedicated to those roles. So they each get a bit of me. It keeps things interesting.
Jesse - is this good enough for GoodStuffHappenedToday? [link]
There's a place on the lower east side that does French onion soup dumplings. Best fusion cuisine EVER. (They're served in an escargot plate with the cheese melted over the top, and you pick them up with a fondue fork. The dough is thicker than what you'd get in a traditional Shanghai soup dumpling so they're not as awkward to eat.)
Those sound AMAZING
In other news, I want noodles for lunch. However I'm more likely to make my splurge of the day a mani/pedi.
I guess I'm going to have to try out the dumpling place around the corner now.

Oh! I've been there! I was in NYC for a long weekend several years ago, and I went there with Nutty because our friend's sister is the pastry chef there. Social Cafe? Something like that?
ION, I had a nice bitching session & dinner last night with my predecessor in this job, and she admitted that she too hated My Nemesis, and we shared horror stories about her for a while. It was very nice to catch up and get sympathy from someone who understands perfectly how difficult it is to get anything done here, and how dysfunctional the management is.
I think, however, in the absence of a firm offer in hand (I haven't heard anything from anyone since last week), I'm going to take advantage of the opportunity to stay a little longer. I can always give notice and go anyway, but sticking around for another month is (sigh) the sensible thing to do.
And next week I'm going to have an open chat with a fairly senior guy back east about how the program is being run. We'll see if it makes any difference, although it probably won't.

Stanton Social, yes! I haven't been in ages, but their food is so good.
Network is down and everything is Citrix based. Whee!
At least the coffee works.
My big boss (the horrible one) said I should hear something soon. I believe nothing until I see it in writing.
Shit, I thought the email my boss sent was about a work group I'd already joined, but apparently not, I am now on, like, three as well as having half my time allocated to a different director. It is now clear I have overreached.
Pity me.
