Thanks, le n. I'm getting a lot of pages that tell me how great Obamacare will be, but I can't find any specific information. This line in an infographic concerns me:

"To be eligible for Premium Tax Credits, individuals must not be covered under Medicaid, Medicare, or the military, and must not have access to health care through their employers."

My BFF works for a grocery chain. She makes less than $12,000 a year. Her employer does offer health insurance, but the cost is prohibitive; it would cost half her measly paycheck to buy the minimum coverage offered, and she can't afford to do that. So she's uninsured. I'm afraid that she wouldn't be eligible for these tax credits because her employer offers insurance.

I'm also unable to explain, or understand, how these tax credits work. She thinks it's just going to be a forced expense that she'll get a tax rebate on, and she doesn't want another expense regardless.

She thinks Obamacare will cost her money and provide her nothing she needs. I'm trying to prove her wrong and I can't find any specific information to do so.

At a glance, it looks like she qualifies for Medicaid, though. This says as of Jan 1, 2014, you qualify at 133% of the poverty level, and this says that 100% this year for an individual is $11,490. Does she just not want to be on Medicaid? It seems like it would be better than nothing.

She may not be eligible yet. And, if you're in a state that is declining the Medicaid money, she may not be eligible next year. The Feds are providing funds to support expansion of medicaid, but those funds will be fading over time, so states will have to foot more of the bill, and some don't want in on that deal.
