Extrovert/introvert is a spectrum on a bell curve, not a binary. Most people need a mixture of socializing and alone time.
To be perfectly honest, if I had a computer, you people, and twitter, I could be alone on a desert island indefinitely.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.

Shorter or longer than this, Lee?
Right about that length would be good, actually. I may take that one with me
Thanks!
what's the term for someone who is very much an extrovert, but absolutely needs a certain amount of alone time/down time?
I think that is an introvert. I think I might be a shy extrovert, actually.

I know that when my stress level goes up, I need more alone time. But I love going out! Events! Yes, let me go to big events and talk to lots of people!
Oh, and if anybody was particularly entranced with Charlize's hair on Oscar night here's a good reference pic.
See, whereas I'm mad extroverted--I love having houseguests because that means there's people around ALL THE TIME! (I mean, I like them better if they also understand that we should both spend some time on the computer or watching TV, because I hate getting days behind on things like borg and FB, but even then I like doing it with someone else in the room). I'm totally a dog on the dog/cat friend scale. :)
What amuses me is that almost ALL of my dearest friends are introverts.
Jilli,
I think all of those introverts are needed to balance you out!
Ironically, I love hosting parties. Because when you're the host, it's incredibly easy to control the level of interaction by excusing yourself to go check on something in the kitchen. So much easier than being a guest with nothing to do except talk!
