what's the term for someone who is very much an extrovert, but absolutely needs a certain amount of alone time/down time?
oh oh oh that's me. I do not get enough extrovert time, meaning getting to just be around people - not necessarily interacting. I loathe to meet new people, but I do not mind crowds at all - being around people gives me energy. It's part of why working from home for more than 1 day a week would be horrible for me. Part of why I know I need a full-time job even if I were to win the lottery. Part of why I was so much less than optimal as a lone employee in an office.
Extrovert/introvert is a spectrum on a bell curve, not a binary. Most people need a mixture of socializing and alone time.
I think Hec should come to Brooklyn and cut my hair, because he is an extrovert and a friend and that would be nice.
I'd love to! I had a lot of fun cutting megan walker's hair when she wanted a bob.
I think Hec (or anyone else) should find me pictures of short haircuts for thick curly hair that I can take to my hairdresser, who doesn't seem to think I actually want short hair.
I'll see what I can do.
Whereas I like spending time with people, but I absolutely need my alone time to recharge.
Every time I try to chat with someone I'm not going to see again I feel like "Why are we wasting time on this inanity?" I have to remind myself that other people enjoy incidental human connection. I've noticed that men Hubby's age and older are insanely chatty with each other, he'll run into a man his age or older at the supermarket and they'll start sharing personal surgical details and such within seconds. "Do you know him?" i'll ask later. "Not a clue who he is," Hubby will say.
ION - opertation clean the desk is going fairly well. I mailed off 2 envelopes of stuff. returned some photocopies. scanned in 3 presentations, then dumped the hard copies. Returned one pile of business cards that I had scanned in.
I've got 2 more folders of things to scan and that will get rid of one pile.
I am an introvert, but I am realizing more and more that other people time is also good for me.
I am in the awkward conversation corner. But not with my hairdresser, only because she is awesome and outgoing and I have been getting my hair cut by her for about seven years now. The worst encounters for me are always with chatty cab drivers.

I love it when you guys talk science and I actually understand it.
I love to be social, but after a certain point I just shut off and I have to go hide. It's one thing about smoking that makes it hard to quit -- it's a perfect excuse for a short break.
