"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

You are welcome to come to the salon and sit in awkward silence with me while I get a haircut if you don't believe it.

I'd be happy to handle this responsibility.

information libertarian

I also am an "awkward with the hairdresser" person. I talk about the weather and our city, but I (irrationally) resent the expectation that I am supposed to make chat with someone who is cutting my hair!

YES.

I think Hec should come to Brooklyn and cut my hair, because he is an extrovert and a friend and that would be nice.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

but mostly, it's me standing around, feeling awkward and wondering how the humans do it.

Which is why you have me to text in times like that.

But this conversation reminded me of a question I wanted to ask: what's the term for someone who is very much an extrovert, but absolutely needs a certain amount of alone time/down time?

And speaking of networking: this weekend is Emerald City Comic Con, and Pete has a table. So I'm reprising my role as booth assistant. Which is going to be extra exciting, because the Kickstarter for the M:tG anniversary art book just launched. [link]

Pete is one of the organizers, and the person running the Kickstarter. I swear I won't slip Xanax into his coffee to manage his stress levels.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

I used to be awkward with the hairdresser. but now I have one that lives in my neighborhood- so we have stuff to talk about , even if I only see her once every 2 years...

It helps that all my dental hygenist are young --

It is interesting - I am not shy. But there are a bunch of situations where I am confused about why I should say anything

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

I think Hec (or anyone else) should find me pictures of short haircuts for thick curly hair that I can take to my hairdresser, who doesn't seem to think I actually want short hair.

Then I wouldn't have to talk to her so much.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Jilli,

an extrovert is someone who takes energy from interacting with others, while an introvert is someone who takes energy from being alone, yes?

so in your case, I would call you an introvert who can pass. :-)

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

oh oh oh that's me. I do not get enough extrovert time, meaning getting to just be around people - not necessarily interacting. I loathe to meet new people, but I do not mind crowds at all - being around people gives me energy. It's part of why working from home for more than 1 day a week would be horrible for me. Part of why I know I need a full-time job even if I were to win the lottery. Part of why I was so much less than optimal as a lone employee in an office.

Extrovert/introvert is a spectrum on a bell curve, not a binary. Most people need a mixture of socializing and alone time.
