Angel: I appreciate you guys looking out for Connor all summer. It's just—he's confused. He needs time. That's all. Fred: Right. Time, and some corporal punishment with a large heavy mallet. Not that I'm bitter.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Agreed theoretically except for the huge health costs related to unhealthy eating of all stripes that we all pay for.

Agreed theoretically, except for how problematical it is to define "healthy eating". I think animal fats are healthy and I have much evidence on my side. Other people claim animal fats will kill you and they claim to have much evidence on their side. I'm sure someone would tell me I'm contributing to huge health costs related to unhealthy eating because I eat bacon and eggs and steak instead of cereal and fat-free everything, despite that my physicals show that I'm healthy.

I imagine the Crossfit helped a great deal as well. There's lots of evidence that healthy habits help the people engaged in them become healthier.

CrossFit helped indeed, but the change started with her Paleo diet. It was only because she felt so much better eating that way that she was able to get into the extreme workouts of CrossFit. (Seriously. I tried it. It's HARD exercise. I'm not sure it's actually not damaging, to work out that hard almost every day.)

I don't know where that leaves me. My family migrated too much. ...

Seriously. And what if you're, say, half Asian and half European? Whose traditional diet do you follow? It doesn't make much sense.

There's plenty of evidence that humans became less healthy with the advent of agriculture, but I don't think you can simplify it that much. Agriculture and civilization go hand in hand; and civilization frequently means the development of classes.

Exactly this, and civilization and agriculture leads to a lot of people living on top of each other in the same place all the time, which leads to endemic diseases that nomads and small tribes of H/Gs don't have to deal with. (They have OTHER diseases to deal with.)

I am not cranky. No. I just went out and bought ice cream, and it's sitting in the fridge calling to me in a sultry voice. Soon I will give in and eat it, and its non-Paleo-ness will be delicious.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Thanks for the link, Amy. Great pick-me-up for a Monday.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Paging billytea: I could have sword I read that sea cucumbers ate by vomiting their stomachs onto the food, digesting it externally, and putting their bits back in.

But wikipedia does not back me up on this. Is there another sea creature that eats this way?

Crap, I missed the Tony's. But that opening is fabulous!

My belt test is a week away and I'm starting to panic. At the advanced belt tests, the person who oversee's the test is Master Clark. His wife trains at my dojo and K-Bug babysits his kids. So I know him on a few different levels. It doesn't matter, he was at the dojo today (not even in his gi) but just seeing him upped my nervous levels.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

ita !, I think sea stars can do that. Wikipedia agrees that many of them do.

Suzi, if you can get ahold of the medley he did of past winner's scores, that is worth seeing, too.

I know the feeling, Suzi. No real advice, though.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

I have too many thoughts and feels about various eating and exercising and how we "developed" and since I am cranky, I am not going to even try typing them out today. I can't tell if I want the debate and to try and work stuff out or I just want to me cranky. But I have thought a lot about this so next time the conversation rolls around, I am joining.

watch NPH's opening number from the Tonys. I want to watch it every day.

That was fantastic. I think the key to getting me past the fact that I don't actually like musicals is NPH. And, um, only watching the funny opening bit. But that was pretty awesome.

Will search for that after work, Debet.

I'm going to miss my private lesson tomorrow cause I have tickets to see the Rockies play the A's! I actually have tickets for all three A's games. Both teams have been playing badly lately, so I'm just hoping for some good baseball.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

Me, too. Though I really have to think where a person grows up is also hugely formative w/r/t what is good for them to eat and/or what their body craves. For example, I don't function well unless I'm getting a lot of coldwater fish (specifically salmon and cod) in my diet, with tomatoes and pumpkin taking a high priority in the summer. It's pretty clear what nutrients my body is putting at the top of the "must have NAO" list, and only the fish would have been available to my ancestors.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

Potatoes are native to the Americas. Before Columbus, Europeans and Africans and Asians ate root vegetables, but not potatoes because they did not have any. So if you are doing Paleo and trying to match your ancestors diet pre-agriculture, forget potatoes unless you are Native American.

I can't explain it, but this makes me love juliana even more. SHE MUST HAVE PUMPKIN.
