I have too many thoughts and feels about various eating and exercising and how we "developed"
Me, too. Though I really have to think where a person grows up is also hugely formative w/r/t what is good for them to eat and/or what their body craves. For example, I don't function well unless I'm getting a lot of coldwater fish (specifically salmon and cod) in my diet, with tomatoes and pumpkin taking a high priority in the summer. It's pretty clear what nutrients my body is putting at the top of the "must have NAO" list, and only the fish would have been available to my ancestors.
Potatoes are native to the Americas. Before Columbus, Europeans and Africans and Asians ate root vegetables, but not potatoes because they did not have any. So if you are doing Paleo and trying to match your ancestors diet pre-agriculture, forget potatoes unless you are Native American.

I can't explain it, but this makes me love juliana even more. SHE MUST HAVE PUMPKIN.
The nest time someone tries to convince me that I should do Paleo, I'm going to smile and say,
"My ancestors are from the lands around the castle of Vlad Tzepesh Dracul. So that means I should ... drink blood?"
I'm currently about 7 years older than the average life expectancy of Cro-Magnon Man, so not really looking to them for tips about how to live longer and healthier.
Heee, Jilli!
I broke out of the office into the warm sun and bought a "homemade Oreo" at a new chocolate shop downtown: it's two big soft chocolate cookies with some killer white cream inside. NOM.
Somehow I suspect my Celtic ancestors did not eat these things.
Apparently the average prehistoric man that made it into adulthood lived longer than you have so far, Matt.

Reasons to love the internet: Just watching the great NPH parts of the Tonys without seeing awards for shows I won't see.

It was really interesting to me to realize that if "average lifespan" was 50 (a made-up number), that didn't mean that 50-year-olds were elderly, just that a lot of people died at 20 or whatever.
Or in infancy. Life expectancy
at age 5
is a figure you'll often see that gives you a much clearer picture of reality. Especially for anything pre-20th century.
