Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
you could argue that money is more important for a man."
Um. Maybe you could argue his, but you would lose.
At jury duty today, which so far means lots of time for Internet browsing. Whee!
Thanks!
Cashmere, I'm not going to follow that link, because if my head esplodifies I won't be able to work. How did that guy get elected in Wisconsin, anyway?
A cool essay: I’m Christian, unless you’re gay.
An even cooler response (in which a gay teen comes out to his homophobic mother): A Teen’s Brave Response to “I’m Christian, Unless You’re Gay”
(You can read the second without reading the first.)
This is the most ludicrous thing I've seen linked to Easter (and to car repair) so far this year. Lord have mercy.
Sometime overnight my laptop battery died. I am not happy.
Look at this fucking hipster 18th century trephination set: [link]
Trephines are the surgical devices used for trephination, or trepanning. The basic practices and tools have remained largely unchanged for centuries. Among the trephines themselves, with their cylindrical blades, are a large brace to hold the trephines during drilling, two rugines to remove connective tissue from bones, two lenticulars to depress brain material during surgery and a brush to remove fine fragments of bone. The styling of the instruments and their box reflects a long tradition of producing surgical and scientific instruments as finely crafted, gentlemanly possessions.
I got to see a presentation about 1800s era dentistry at Old Sturbridge Village a few years back, by a practicing dentist who had a collection of historical instruments. He pointed out that most people think they look very modern... but that given that human mouths and human hands haven't changed much since then, they're one aspect of dentistry that haven't needed to change.
no one at work is respecting my extreme desire to do nothing. HOW DARE THEY?!?!
given that human mouths and human hands haven't changed much since then, they're one aspect of dentistry that haven't needed to change.
That argument, however, doesn't apply to gynecological instruments.
