I would not feel obligated to let somebody's wishes take precedence over saving their life, excepting people who are terminally ill and in great pain. Exception also made for Locked In Syndrome or similar state.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.
He accepted the offer of a play date and postponing the party for a week. And he happily chatted with me all the way to school. I was happily surprised. I was expecting him to give me grief for at least a couple days.
