A client (who knows of my trip to the USS Alabama) sent me this link:
Historic battleship USS Iowa to become museum in Los Angeles
It's great it's going to be a museum ship. Also, I did not know this:
Historic groups in Northern California had sought to find a permanent home there for the ship, but they faced a number of setbacks. Among them was a vote in 2005 by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to reject a resolution to move the Iowa to the city as a floating museum.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported at the time that some city supervisors had voted against the resolution out of opposition to the U.S. military's then-policy of "don't ask, don't tell," which barred gays and lesbians from openly serving in the armed forces.
Several members of the board who took part in the 2005 vote could not be reached for comment.
That's too bad; I'd prefer the Iowa was in the SF Bay area.
I don't know that the hummingbird feeder shield is even necessary. Mine are so tame one totally licked me. Which I talked about on facebook but not here, I think. It was taking too long for me to straighten the feeder that it decided to take the sugar water that had spilled on my hand instead.
I have cleaned the feeders and made the new nectar, but it is so crazy windy today I don't think I can hang them out. I might just put out the small window one, because I imagine it is hard for them to get nectar today, but sheesh, it's unbelievable out there.
I had disappointing non-boozy ice cream. I bought the new Ben & Jerry's Red Velvet Cake ice cream because red velvet cake used to be my favorite cake ever. It promises red velvet cake batter ice cream with pieces of red velvet cake and cream cheese frosting. But red velvet cake is really just chocolate cake with a bottle of food coloring. So when I opened up the container and it was mostly white I was worried. And yup, there's cake batter ice cream, but it's vanilla based. Sad. I'm still eating it, though.

Yeah, I hated that decision. But generally I hate any local posturing about Federal laws. You can't even drive nuclear material through Berkeley! Not even a little plutonium pellet you might be using for your matter transporter!
Sad. I'm still eating it, though.
In related Sad Ice Cream News, JZ's mom brought over some chocolate ice cream when she came over for dinner last night. But I don't think she realized it was fat free ice cream for people who are lactose intolerant. It had so little creaminess to it that it literally flaked as I was trying to scoop it out.
Fortunately, Matilda liked it so it shall be foisted on her.
See, my hummingbirds are bold enough to come right up to me, but I am too scared by their pointy beaks and sudden quick movements to really let them. I think I need to refill at least one feeder, though, I should get on that.

You need californium for that.
The local frozen custard shop (Ollies) had an experimental red velvet cake flavor. It was mostly just sweet. They're Thin Mint Cookie custard is OH so much better.
I had sake toffee ice cream just the other day. It was delicious!
I know! But to them they're ordinary movements. I just have to calm myself, because the hummingbirds are totally chill. They just look completely frenetic to me.
Although my big fear is getting in the way of the endless and brutal hummingbird battles.
