I have new boots. I did not come to Spain intending to buy new boots. However, my feet were so fucking cold and shoes soggy after an hour in Avila, I just broke down. 50 EU, which honestly what I'd spend in the states.
Less than ideal to break new boots in on say, oh the city walls around Avila, however my only complaints stem from the fact that my feet have been aching for six days already. Hurt less than the sketchers, and were WARM AND DRY. And they are even made in Spain! So I feel less of a dork in that all I've purchased outside of food and lodging is a cheap umbrella and some earrings I might not be able to wear. I have Spanish Botas!
Anyway, the weather still sucks, but I have an umbrella and spent the day in Avila. Was probably one of only three people who braved the wall. I imagine the distance view is amazing when there isn't a cloud ceiling, but even so, not bad.
Waiting to put everything on flickr because currently am on my work machine and well, hotel wifi, so being sparing with that load.
A little old spanish man tried to adopt me. I'm not sure the last time I had my cheeks & chin pinched like that. Ohhkay.
So take heed, take heed of the western wind
Take heed of the stormy weather
And yes, there's something you can send back to me
Spanish boots of Spanish leather.
SPANISH BOOTS OF SPANISH LEATHER!!
even the old Spanish men know that cutieheadsaracakes needs her cheeks pinched. squishy squishy squishy who is the cutieheadedest?1?!?!? WHO IS?!
lisah's Bob called that out immediately on fb. Heh.
(I'm resting my feet for the moment.)
I love that xkcd, tommyrot, and not just or even mostly because there's a little Joss in there, and not just because the cancer representation is so apt, but because romance is the only other thing that carries over to the cancer years. The only way that comic could be more perfect is if it was "love" instead of "romance." Not that there's anything wrong with romance, but it's only one kind of love and all the loves are good.
I'm sorry you're having bad weather, sarameg, but am glad you've got your Spanish boots of Spanish leather!
I also love that xkcd strip for the callback to people being wrong on the internet.
And downpour. Well, since I've decided that the weather for Toledo looks better Sunday, I can putz around here a couple more hours before heading back to Madrid tomorrow...

As can I, though I don't recommend the step that followed for me. I hope other avoid that one for a very, very, very long time.
Glad you're enjoying yourself despite the weather, sara.
