Giles, if you would like to get by in American society, then you are going to have to follow our traditions. You're the patriarch. You have to host the festivities, or it's all meaningless.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

That the democratic base is made up entirely of people not paying federal income tax, who are receiving checks from the government, are voting for Obama only to continue receiving that money, and who are also lazy shiftless bums.

...

Well, you gotta admit, a lot of people like to eat.

You know, Jonathan Swift proposed a solution to *both* these problems about 275 years ago.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

You know, Jonathan Swift proposed a solution to *both* these problems about 275 years ago.

It was such a modest proposal.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I'm sure all of the secret Muslims are on welfare too.

Obviously, obviously.

Hey, remember that time George W Bush sent us all checks? Man, that was some evil shit right there.

The thing that's so funny to me about this epithet is that I know actual socialists, who live in a commune, who share all their belongings. By living in accordance with their view of biblical teachings.

It kind of makes me cry to think about how the religious Right (or, as an awesome old lady activist I used to work with always said, "the irreligious WRONG!") would respond to Actual Jesus. I mean, can you imagine?

I can. It ends with a crucifixion.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

did I link this yet?

[link]

people in the U.S. tend to overestimate how many Jewish people, African Americans, Asian Americans, and Latinos there are in this country.

Like by a whole lot.

People who are college educated tend to do better, but the overestimation is probably fueling some of the racial bias "down with welfare" bullshit.

Our wings are not tired.

Or, you could be like me, and make a point of living in a diverse area. I have no idea what the demographics of various ethnic or racial groups are in the US, and based on what I see every day, I am likely to wayyy over estimate.

I'm working on my self-assessment, which is leading to crippling anxiety.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I'm in the ER and I'm terrified because I don't see anyone I recognise yet, and I'm angry at everything that made this a daytime (slow) visit and I threw up in the five minutes I was home before I came back out...and a lot of ands.
