Something will run til 8:01 and effectively blocks me from having a season pass to something in the 8:PM slot.
Will Tivo not let you set a season pass for a specific timeslot (as opposed to show), or have the recording go over by X number of minutes? Because my DVR does.
Steph, thanks for the update on your brother. I've been thinking about him, but I keep forgetting to ask.

A good night's sleep plus a big breakfast, for me, equals being alert and not-hungry most of the day. Noted.

Wait. Are you saying that drinking too much made his hair straight? Oh dear. That's wacky.
Don't the networks deliberately schedule shows to run over to foil time-shifting?
Whenever I can, I maually set the DVR to record the program 1 or 2 minutes "extra". Because losing the last minute pisses me off. My DVR sometimes cuts off 30 seconds at the beginning, too, which, again, pisses me off.

If anything drives me to cancel cable and get my tv fix from the Internet, it will be this. I'm already paying way too much for cable, is it too damn much to ask that I get to see ALL of the motherloving show? Maybe the DVR could record more than 2 shows at once?

NO IDEA. I mean, when he was a wee kid and (I assume) not a boozehound, his hair was also straight. The curly hair is just crazycakes.

It doesn't happen that often--I force The Closer to run long, and I forced Teen Wolf to run long, but clearly not by enough. It's a pretty small percentage of the shows I record.
Someone told me I was wearing patriotic colours today. Since I'm not wearing yellow or green, I took umbrage, and feel self-conscious.

TiVo lets you overlap by about 5 minutes. The higher priority program gets recorded in its entirety. You just need to pay attention to order.

Going over is the problem. If a show runs from 7:01 to 8:01, that blocks off two full hour slots, as far as season passes go. You can set it to run over, but what you can't do is program something to start late or end early.
You can do it manually, as you suggest. But then a)I can't see what it is in my list, and b)it won't pick up from season to season or other changes. And also, just effing annoying.
I've got DirectV now, so that could be the issue v. Tivo. I remember now that Tivo would sometimes warn you that something would get clipped. With DirectV, the lower priority one just doesn't record at all.
I have a dual drive DVR (records two shows at the same time / can watch one while recording another), so that may be a difference too.
My hair went from fairly straight to curly in my early thirties. No drinking or abstaining involved. I just got the hair I used to spend money to get.

Yeah--if the show is scheduled honestly, it will handle the clipping of up to five minutes, and you can slide end times that far too without it cancelling the show being trimmed. And it will warn you when you look at what's set to record.
