Jesse, I'm pretty sure it is because of racism
I was reading a blog post about the earlier team all-around win (I think linked to on FB, not here?) about how Gabby was the one who really kicked ass, and was the one who was on all four apparatus, and had awesome scores, more so than Jordan or Ali. But the commentators basically didn't talk about her at all. Racist.
Why are they saving the good stuff until after 11, ffs? (Every other night I've just gone to bed earlier, but this is silly.)
This has been pissing me off to no end. I feel like this is ESPECIALLY ridiculous for the West Coasters!! I mean, it's already delayed for East Coast, but ffs, everyone else in America has already seen it, NBC!
Honestly, I"m FINE with getting highlights in the evening--but don't say "We're going to show gymnastics, swimming, beach volleyball, cycling, judo, weightlifting, and handball tonight! And maybe some water polo!" and you can't know when in those FIVE HOURS or whatever it's going to happen. If it was more like "We'll show you some awesome highlights from 8-10, and then if you want gymnastics specifically, 10-11! And water polo from noon to four!" or something. Because I feel like I'm FINE with spoilers for these--sure, for something like swimming it's not as exciting if you're spoiled, but for stuff like gymnastics? It's all about watching the routines. And I like highlights because even if I wouldn't normally watch judo, highlights mean I might see some and it's awesome, and maybe want to watch more. Or whatever. But if they're showing bits and pieces and cutting away AS IF IT WERE LIVE for commercials? NO. Don't show me the like, eighty seconds of people standing around waiting for a score-and then cut away to commercial just as someone is about to dive!!
Grump grump grump.
