Oy. Someone just pointed out that the new child care center on campus, which just opened a few weeks ago, is named for one of the administrators who's charged with failure to report and perjury.

I'm reading more about this. And it's just so...heartbreaking and maddening. I think Paterno should resign. He was told about this, he knew about it, and he just passed the buck like everyone else.
I think everyone who passed the buck should resign/be fired.
If I'm understanding this correctly (and someone please tell me if I've got it wrong) a grad student told school officials he saw Sandusky raping a 10 year old in the locker rooms. And the officials just told Sandusky "don't bring kids on campus anymore" and that was it.
Paterno was made aware of the fact that Sandusky was molesting and raping children and he told someone but didn't fire Sandusky or remove him for his position or anything else.
Also it wasn't just the grad student who witnessed abuse, there was a janitor who witnessed Sandusky raping another boy orally (I mean, he was seen performing oral sex , I don't know how to word it right). Did that janitor report anything?

Yeah, that's pretty much it.

He didn't. The articles I read said that he thought he'd be fired if he said anything, and that he has dementia now so he can't really be questioned about anything.
Many many people should lose their jobs and many of those same should do jail time. I just can't even.
Heavy D. Man. I loved him. Him guest starring on Different World, good times. Peaceful Journey is a really great album and holds up well.
Maybe he would have been fired in their effort to not deal with this whole thing.
I also saw the statement that Paterno fulfilled his "legal obligation", which maybe he did. But he didn't fulfill his moral obligation.
I just looked up what happened with the janitor. The janitor reported what he saw to some other custodial staff and to his supervisor. The supervisor told him that he should report it to someone else (not clear who), but he never did, and neither did anyone else.
A timeline of the case is here: [link]
(The district attorney mentioned in the 1998 entry, who decided not to file criminal charges, went missing in 2005 and was declared dead this past summer.)

That's sort of creepy.
Yeah, a bizarre footnote to a very disgusting story.
So - all the adults from the Grad Student on up should have called the cops and didn't?

One thing that hasn't been clear (to me) is if any of the others are mandatory reporters.
Pattern and The grad student at least came clean to the grand jury. The others did not, which is one of the main reasons for the indictments.
