The alma mater includes the line "May no act of ours bring shame." I've been hearing people quoting that all day as a way of saying that Paterno should resign because he didn't live up to that ideal. But the students in front of his house are singing it now. I have no idea what they're trying to say with it.
Natter 69: Practically names itself.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
"PENN STATE FUCK YEAH" maybe?
I am so sad about Heavy D! Damn.
And a big gold star for Amy! (You just have to imagine it.)
I can totally see it!
I had no idea about any of that with Penn State. That's horrifying.
Jilli, I did a Jaw-dropGaspDROOL when I saw the pic of your boots! SO. JEALOUS.
Those are gorgeous, and just perfect for you.
Some video of Paterno coming outside to talk to the fans on his lawn. [link]
I didn't know about the Penn State thing either. That's awful.
that poor grad student.
Re: that grad student -
Two people familiar with the investigation confirmed the identity of the graduate assistant as Mike McQueary, now the team's wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator.
That poor grad student also didnt follow up, and was promoted not long after. He repeatedly over the next nine years saw Sandusky attending games and stuff with boys of the same cohort.
I think he stopped being "poor grad student" about 48 hours into this all. Ugh.
Oy. Someone just pointed out that the new child care center on campus, which just opened a few weeks ago, is named for one of the administrators who's charged with failure to report and perjury.
I'm reading more about this. And it's just so...heartbreaking and maddening. I think Paterno should resign. He was told about this, he knew about it, and he just passed the buck like everyone else.
I think everyone who passed the buck should resign/be fired.
If I'm understanding this correctly (and someone please tell me if I've got it wrong) a grad student told school officials he saw Sandusky raping a 10 year old in the locker rooms. And the officials just told Sandusky "don't bring kids on campus anymore" and that was it.
Paterno was made aware of the fact that Sandusky was molesting and raping children and he told someone but didn't fire Sandusky or remove him for his position or anything else.
Also it wasn't just the grad student who witnessed abuse, there was a janitor who witnessed Sandusky raping another boy orally (I mean, he was seen performing oral sex , I don't know how to word it right). Did that janitor report anything?
