Well, I was laid off. Never had that happen to me before...although I did get one month severance. If anyone knows anyone in the L.A. area who might want a fabulous HR person, let me know.
Oh Scrappy!! How do they lay off the HR person!?! (Also one month of severance is kinda shitty--but make sure you apply for unemployment!!). I hope you find something awesome. Know that I've been there many times, and it has sucked each time, but there were good things at the end.

Also, didn't one of the convictions specifically mention that the victim was 14 or 15?
That's where I got every flag raised. There are a lot of things that can get a person on the sex offender registry but one charge there was a very specific age range. I would try to be sure there was really a conviction but yeah, investigate and then a conversation with your mom that I wish you didn't need to have.
Ugh. And I just had to say to my boss (when she was like "but I can't move you to another project because we have no one to replace you on this (insano evil) project") "Well, either you're going to replace me because I'm on a new project or you're going to replace me because I'm going to quit. You pick."
Because I am being driven ENTIRELY INSANE by the RIDICULOUS DEMANDS of this STUPID PROJECT OMG.

Also, {{omnis}}, I do not envy you this conversation. But I would expect my sons to share that kind of information no matter how upsetting it would be.
omnis, you've gotten really good advice here. I'm sorry you (and your mom) are in this position--but I'm really glad you have some resources to be able to find out about this person. You have all my wishes that your conversation with your mom goes as well as possible.

The offenses also include "SEX PENETRATION WITH FOREIGN OBJECT OF A DRUGGED VICTIM, which I find hard to explain away. It also says "Registrant has subsequent felony conviction(s)."
The idea of anyone laying Scrappy off is completely insane.
