Possibly a variety of floribunda rose? [link]

Stephen thought it was a rose! I thought it was a little too ... floppy? Open? But I'm probably just thinking of florist shop roses, and not one of the varieties.
It also has only a very faint fragrance, which made me question it.
Free iPhone App Identifies Tree Leaves
A new iPhone app called LeafSnap can identify a tree’s species by analyzing a photograph of its leaf.
That's definitely a rose. I'm no expert, but my guess would be Doctor Huey. It's a red rose that tends to open into a loose flower like that, with a bit of white at center of the petals. Can't recall stamen color. It's often used as root stock for grafted plants because it's hardy and grows well.

Robin Hood [link] is another possibility. Wander through the Antique Rose Emporium site to see how many types of roses there are.
Thanks, ladies. I'm unreasonably excited that we have a rose bush I knew nothing about.
It kills me that apparently there were also pear trees that the previous owner had taken out.
Love those bookshelves!!!
My favorites are the REK expandable, the maze, the equations, and that staircase is an incredible idea--brilliant!
I never get tired of looking at those staircase bookshelves. Which is good because my eyes are limping, staggering, sobbing messes in need of some serious visual comfort food after looking at those horrific slides.
