Illyria: We cling to what is gone. Is there anything in this life but grief? Wesley: There's love. There's hope...for some. There's hope that you'll find something worthy...that your life will lead you to some joy...that after everything...you can still be surprised. Illyria: Is that enough? Is that enough to live on?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Most of my Canadian border crossings have not been into Quebec. But the border guards are about averagely assholish, slanted to more when I listened to one in particular run through "We're gonna get you, don't even look at Vancouver funny" threats. It was depressingly mechanical bullying.

The Canadian border guards I have met have generally been suspicious of why I would want to go to Prince George, BC. The answer that an internet friend lives there doesn't impress them.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

I'm ok if border guards are assholes. They're not the welcoming committee.

Yeah, the one time I've driven to Canada they were mean, but the airport ones have always been nice enough. I don't need super friendly, just efficient and not mean.

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

I'm waiting for shrift's Canada border crossing story, which involves a bridesmaid's dress.

Yeah, I don't need super friendly, but asking me over and over if I want to change my "story", and telling me over and over that it will be "easier for me if I admit everything now", just because (apparently) I was a woman traveling alone? Not cool. Lucky I was actually visiting friends who could "confirm my story" after I insisted that, really, as a bilingual French-English doctorate holder, did they really think I couldn't figure out a way to move to Canada legally?

I'm not okay with anyone being assholes without provocation. Why bother? I am all for a default of detached near-pleasantness.

Speaking of mean: [link] (yeah, that link says homosocial nipple sucking--don't click if you don't want to know).

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I don't want to know.

But suppose someone asks you about homosociality tomorrow? You'll be all "nipple-sucking-SOMETHING" and then you won't know any more.
