If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

My drive in was an adventure--the storm that blew through here last night had winds up to 80 mph. I had some lights flickering during the peak of the storm, but no full power outage. On my commute, the first few miles all looked normal, but as soon as I crossed the railroad tracks, all you could see were tree branches down, leaves all over the place, and traffic lights out. Then, after I turned onto my usual road through the forest preserve to get to my office, it was dodge-'em time; I had to weave around all of the trees that had been completely uprooted and were lying in my lane. At the office, it was apparent that the power had gone out at some point overnight, because my computer had to be completely restarted.

Yikes. Wasn't as bad in the city though there were some branches down at the park. My tomatoes took a pounding but seem to have survived without any damage.

I also lost a couple of squash blossoms, but I strongly suspect that was less related to the storm and more to the ongoing Plants vs. Darbys game I've got running.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

salacious rumor time:

Hugh Hefner's x-fiancee who he was supposed to marry this Saturday? She has been dating Dr. Phil's son for months. He is reportedly why the wedding was called off.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

Great rumor.

A local TV station made the fried Kool-aid [link] There's a recipe and a picture. It looks unnervingly like a glob of meat.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

le nubian, that's a fantastic salacious rumor.

ION, I just read this really moving NYT piece by a Pulitzer-winning journalist who's an undocumented immigrant: [link]

Man, I feel bad for him: good on him for taking a stand, but he's going to get hammered. And probably deported.

Shockingly enough, the (few) comments on the article so far are pretty generous.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Al Gore slams Obama for Failing to Take on “the Merchants of Poison,” Compares Media to Pro Wrestling Referees

I've posted this mostly because of its excellent critique of mainstream media's coverage of global warming.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

It's still only Wednesday, right?

Why?

(other than the fact that if it weren't still Wednesday I would be really screwed in terms of my big project due on Thursday, rather than only a little bit screwed the way I am now)

I think so.

For some reason, I'm just really tired and out of it today. But my boss is out of town, so I'm sorta... slacking... a little.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

I am exhausted, freezing, and cramping, so I'm really not in the mood to work, either. I've got my polar fleece jacket all buttoned up to my neck, and when I don't need my hands on the keyboard, they're tucked into my pockets.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Emmett's coming to SF via BART/Muni today solo for the first time.

Which means if you could see all the Buffistas as little dots on a map, he would pass very close to shrift and megan walker around midday.

I often think of the little dots on a map visual, particularly after I've run into somebody unexpectedly on the street. And I think about all the times I was probably within half a block of somebody I know but didn't run into them because I missed the traffic light.

I am wasting more time by taking pictures of myself to use on online dating sites. I took two Apple laptops and placed them on either side of my four monitors on my work computer. Then I opened browser windows on all six screens and loaded full-screen videos of Nyan Cat. Then I sat down and let my camera (on timer) take pictures of me and the six Nyan cats.

What I really should have done was pose while eating a Pixie Stick or something....
