So, last night I tried using the flashlight on my iphone. Couldn't get it to work - believe the phone needed charging.

So I just went and hid in the bedroom where it's cool and this morning, went over to check the fusebox and yes, indeed- somebody had turn on my heat.

Sigh.

Hey, I was baptized at Corpus Christi! We can see the little blue tower from my dad's back porch. And it was actually the home of the now-retired, about-to-be-fired priest and the fiery radical friend of Bartlett before they moved to my old parish.

The thing that's obvious from an outsider's perspective is that this parish priest was installed to basically break up this parish.

Oh, it's pretty obvious from an insider's perspective, too.

Nobody expects to be able to change the course of events; the goal is to make it happen in the open. And if eventually it came down to a big ugly rupture and a schism and we ended up with (a) Opus Dei, and (b) a Vatican II hodgepodge of folk songs and women priests and no more secret handshakes with the Mormons... I could live with that.

I really dislike having control of my heater in one of the public areas of the building - particularly when I am the one paying for it.

ION, someone (probably my next door neighbor) is cooking waffles and/or pancakes, and they smell deliciously good.

The only way to turn on/off the heat is by turning on/off the fuse at the fusebox. This is kept in the basement of the other half of the building.

Does that control only your heat, Sumi? If so, you could tape it in place and stick on a note.

Yes, it controls the heater in the living room. (I no longer have central heat - just individual heaters.) That's a good idea.

No, breakers only flip off on their own. My guess would be that the power surge flipped some other breakers and someone "helpfully" flipped them all back on.
