Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Give it its own food, dammit.

Memorial Day is supposed to be iffy coffee, Cinnabons and then later frozen lemonade and something potentially sketchy off of the grill. All accompanied by the smell of burning tires and fuel. Race weekends at the track, I love them.

But I find myself staring at random strange babies thinking "Thank god you're cute, man." And then feeling guilty.

I've said this to kids I know. Then felt some guilt but it doesn't make it less true.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

Time to commandeer a restroom stall and lower your purity test score.

I'm with ita. Then take me for a weekend someplace nice.

I think ita has the right plan, in that situation!

I'm irked--a friend said "Hey, I'm having dinner with someone, and then let's you and I get together, 9ish? and have a drink and then go dancing". OK, great.

At 9 she texted me, and said "get together at 10?" and I wrote back that I'd rather a littel earlier, if I'm going to leave the house and not fall asleep. ...didn't hear from her. Asked where she wanted to meet. ....didn't hear from her.

Finally it's now 9:55 and she just text saying "where should we meet?" Well, we're not meeting at 10, that's for sure!

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I've said this to kids I know.

I've said it to my own kids. And felt not one whit of guilt about it.

WRT traditional summer holiday foodstuffs: ita has a point, but summer tends to mean barbeque, so that's probably why so many of the summer holidays default to that. But the 4th has fireworks. And we are going to Catalina again for the 4th. Woot!

Some other day, surely. At least that'd be my answer if I was irked. And you have righteous irk in this situation.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Memorial Day--like July 4th, but with less flash. I feel kinda sad on its behalf. Still taking it off, though.

But ... There are over 1250 miles of racing tomorrow. How can you feel sad for a day with three massive races? I mean, beyond the part where many people don't care. But I maintain those people are missing out on the awesomeness of motorsports.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

But I maintain those people are missing out on the awesomeness of motorsports.

You can have my share.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Yeah, that's totally righteous irk.

OMG, y'all, I am so tired! My dogs are barking. Audubon this morning, running errands this afternoon. Then the music store students gave their big Rock Academy concert! They did so completely great! Everything from Tom Petty to Death Cab for Cutie to Arcade Fire. They rocked it out.

Then we had the last worship service with our buddy. We threw balloons out on the stage and dropped them from the catwalk. Then during the penultimate song we did bubble machine bubbles, beach balls, confetti and noisemakers. It was a blast.
