Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

and she just text saying "where should we meet?"

Some other day, surely. At least that'd be my answer if I was irked. And you have righteous irk in this situation.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Memorial Day--like July 4th, but with less flash. I feel kinda sad on its behalf. Still taking it off, though.

But ... There are over 1250 miles of racing tomorrow. How can you feel sad for a day with three massive races? I mean, beyond the part where many people don't care. But I maintain those people are missing out on the awesomeness of motorsports.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

But I maintain those people are missing out on the awesomeness of motorsports.

You can have my share.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Yeah, that's totally righteous irk.

OMG, y'all, I am so tired! My dogs are barking. Audubon this morning, running errands this afternoon. Then the music store students gave their big Rock Academy concert! They did so completely great! Everything from Tom Petty to Death Cab for Cutie to Arcade Fire. They rocked it out.

Then we had the last worship service with our buddy. We threw balloons out on the stage and dropped them from the catwalk. Then during the penultimate song we did bubble machine bubbles, beach balls, confetti and noisemakers. It was a blast.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Announcement: I found a new cocktail to make at home, involving both bourbon and tequila.

Recipe, please?

You can have all of mine--I grew up in Indy and don't need it.

Luckily, irksome friend eventually showed up, we checked out a new bar with fab cocktails and, shockingly, quiet! on a Saturday night! Then went dancing, where I managed to avoid making out with the ex, but ended up feeling very old when we agreed that managing to stay until 1AM was totally sufficient.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Recipe, please?

ice
2 ounces bourbon
1/2 ounce anejo tequila
1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
1/4 ounce simple syrup *
lime wedge

Fill cocktail shaker with ice. Put everything but the lime wedge in the shaker, shake well, then strain into a martini glass. Garnish with the lime wedge.

  • Simple syrup recipe: combine 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in small sauce pan, bring to a boil over moderately high heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat, cool, and store in refrigerator in a tightly sealed glsss jar.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Oh man! I'm listening to Liane Hansen's last day on Weekend Edition Sunday. Sad.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

Super sad. But it's been a Liane going off the air fest for a few weeks (months?) now. This has more impact in my life than Oprah going off the air.

It's overcast this morning, which is good. But yoiks. Chilly too.
