Good god, vortex.
I didn't vote for or against anyone running unionized (most of our judges) but there were some I did--some judges suck.

I got a sticker!
In classic form, I voted for: 7 democrats, 4 republicans, 2 libertarians, and a green party member. It would have been two greens, but the green party didn't actually back the other green candidate! So I was all, huh. Apparently he registered as a Green on the same day he registered to run for office. I call shenanigans. I did not vote for the judges or the school board.
I voted for a Navajo, three Hispanics, three women, and the rest white guys. One of the races will be a woman for sure, both candidates are female.
The props were all jacked up, and deceptively worded to boot.
But anyway, it's done, and like my kiddoes I am highly reward motivated and am wearing my sticker around the house.
Oooh, fascinating geek tidbit from the Giants boards:
110110 in binary? 54
(1954 being the last year we won. 11/01/10 being the date of our new championship.)
I voted straight down the line Working Families Party. Same candidates as voting Democratic, but the party platform is more explicitly lefty. I don't think Dylan got to vote this year, but he voted with DH in the primary and in Brooklyn that's the one that really matters.
Oh, yeah, and it was super cute because we vote at our tiny local post office/honor system library, so it's a little room. I mean, the post office is a post office only, they don't actually do delivery.
So there were maybe five people in there already when the SO & I arrived. And the polling volunteers were all super apologetic about how there wasn't actually a booth immediately available, and would we be willing to vote in the provisional booth (which was just slightly off the side and yellow.) instead? I was like, seriously? Just down the street they're waiting for hours to vote. I am totally strolling in here and talking to people I know and voting and leaving. There isn't any wait time at all. It is awesome.
The contested elections were too damn close for me to vote for anybody but Democrats. Plus under Washington's system the only way to vote for anyone but the top two primary vote-getters is write-in.
I did not vote for anyone who was running uncontested. They get into office regardless, so unless I'm superenthusiastic for them I see no reason to give them my vote. All the uncontested were judges anyway. I've always thought that it really makes sense to elect judges. And brain surgeons .
Apropos for today. Anti-suffragette propaganda! [link]
I was pleasantly surprised at how many third party candidates had actually made it onto the ballot. I didn't have any write-ins at all this year, which is unusual for me.
I guess one of our local counties there were more registered independents this year than registered Democrats or Republicans.
Oh, I forgot to mention, though I had to suppress my inner Buffista, because one of the candidate information packets had a guy protesting "bold-faced lies" and I nearly didn't vote for him because it was such a stupid mistake. Hee. Bold faced lies. Like what, I'm the Queen of England? But it probably wasn't even his mistake, so I guess that's not the best reason not to vote for someone.
I did vote for someone nearly frivolously because he included in his candidate statement, "I aim to misbehave." I suppose later it'll come out that he's defrauded the American public and told us he was going to, when I thought he was just making a pop culture reference. So if that happens, that'll be my fault.
There's not a lot to vote for today here. I mean, the mayoral candidate is running unopposed by a major party. One thing I am interested in is that the govt is considering making Attorney General an elected office, which I'm against. When that happens, you get a good politician in office. That good politician may or may not be a good prosecutor.
I voted straight down the line Working Families Party.
Ditto.
