Occasionally I’m callous and strange

my grandmother had lumps of those ribbon candies. i ate one once, it was just crystalized sugar- no flavoring at all. I felt cheated. Nanny, OTOH, always had a dish full of Andes mints. Those were nummy. Until last week when i had one after years without and it tasted like minty cocoa-flavored wax.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Michael's is the bomb. It's my very first stop before planning any wedding.

When I worked at a Michael's, it was like they'd given a kid a job in a candy shop.

Jilli, I'm glad you got such a relaxment. You deserve it.

Well-getting wishes to all who are under the weather.

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

My grandma had peppermints (both swirly and blue) and Hershey's kisses. And a pound cake on top of the fridge, always, that we frequently had for breakfast when we visited.

Megan, those are exactly what my grandma had in her purse. Ahhhh, memories. She died in 1980. Certain things, such as these candies, take me right back here. Along with ugly green Ford Pintos.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

I don't remember candy from my Great Aunt, but she made the best fresh limeade. And my first car ('71 Nova) had been her car.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Yeah, my mom kept the "Christmas candy" in the glass dish with the lid. For *years*. In her 90s I caught her chipping it apart with an icepick the day before Halloween. Yup, you guessed it. And no, I didn't let her. i also hid the icepick.

I love those La Vie La Vosgienne pastilles! I guess I could qualify as a great-aunt on that count because I've kept them in my desk drawer--those and the various mint and citrus Altoids. The empty tins do come in handy. And unlike most things of that ilk, they don't seem to multiply like rabbits.

Not so sure about Altoids not multiplying like rabbits. After my mom died, we found over 10 Altoid tins, from unopened, to partially used, to empty. I honestly don't remember her as being an Altoid person. Will have to ask the kids...maybe she stocked the mints for them.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I think my one grandmother had ribbon candy out, but I can't remember if it was just at holidays or not. It's been years and years, though.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l
